Coptic Martyr

The Coptic Martyr of Cairo

The latest international thriller from best-selling author Martin Roth

Four Americans in Egypt on an archaeological dig. In the blistering summer heat they are fighting amongst themselves. Then they unearth a body. It is an old priest who has been murdered.

The gruesome discovery sets in train a sequence of events that leads to a deadly Islamist attack on the ancient church where the Americans are working.

The leader of the expedition, Professor Rafa Harel, must decide whether to withdraw his fractious team or continue on a mission to unveil a controversial series of wall paintings, knowing that these images have the power to spark even greater violence.

Meanwhile, watching over all of them is a dreamy young Egyptian Christian named Amir. His only quest in life is to become a martyr...

About This Website

For those in the West trying to live as Christians it sometimes seems that the whole culture is conspiring against us.

Jesus preached a message that was revolutionary in its day: love, forgiveness, service, integrity, trust, humility, prayer, compassion, justice, and more. Yet too often in our world today we see self-interest placed ahead of love and compassion, rule by the powerful in place of justice and service, spin instead of honesty and integrity.

The message of Jesus has become revolutionary again. Christianity is the new counter-culture.

I launched this website in April 2002, intending it as a service to Christians trying to live under God in a post-Christian world. In September 2002 I changed the name of the site, from MartinRothOnline.com to Martin Roth Christian Commentary.

I try to write two commentaries each week. The latest is placed on the home page, the others can be accessed from the archives page, or via the links in the left and right columns of the home page.

In 1999, my book Living Water to Light the Journey was published. Sub-titled "The Restitution of Spirituality and Virtue to Australian Culture", it was a call for spiritual renewal in our society. Now out of print, this book too is on the website.

There is more, including some articles I have written and an archive of the weblog that I maintained for several months.

It is my prayer that this site will inform, stimulate and inspire. I welcome your comments and suggestions.

[Update: Following a computer crash, and a subsequent move to a new internet service, I became unable to upload to the site. It meant I couldn't add or change anything. In October 2009 I rebuilt the main parts of the site, page by pain-staking page, and re-uploaded it all. But I did not re-establish all the links - many no longer worked, anyway - and large parts of the site are not in the new format. To see the remnants of the old site, click here.]
